Kapitan Alberto Graça, pierwszy dyrektor tego muzeum mial pomysl ufundowania w tym czasie niepotrzebnej Escola 5 de Outubro. Przez dwa lata muzeum bylo uzaleznione od tej szkoly, ale w 1915 skoñczyla siê zaleznosc od szkoly i muzeum podlegalo Sekretariatowi Generalnemu Rzadu. Jeszcze w tym samym roku muzeum bylo bogate w kolekcjê owadów oferowana przez H. Junot. W grudniu 1916 roku, gubernator generalny Álvaro de Castro nakazal, aby muzeum zmienilo dotychczasowa bardzo zla siedzibê, na Viola Józia, dzisiejszy gmach Sadu Najwyzszego. W roku 1932 gubernator generalny pulkownik José Cabral zdecydowal, ze muzeum bêdzie budowla w stylu portugalskiego gotyku i stanie w miejscu, w którym dzisiaj siê znajduje, a bylo budowane z przeznaczeniem dla szkoly podstawowej. Rok 1957, muzeum oddzielilo od Escola 5 de Outubro i zostalo podlegle calkowicie Departamentowi Publicznej Edukacji. Od 1959 roku bylo podporzadkowane Instytutowi Badawczemu Wiedzy w Mozambiku. Po odzyskaniu niepodlegloœci kraju, muzeum stanowilo segment Uniwersytety Eduardo Mondlane. Wystawiane zwierzêta w muzeum sa podzielone wedlug glównych grup ssaków, ptaków, plazów i ryb, pomiêdzy krêgowcami. Bezkrêgowce sa reprezentowane na wystawie w skladzie: miêœniaki, wiciowce, twory komórkowe i owady. Eksponaty sa pokazywane wylacznie w zgodnosci z warunkami, w jakich zyja. Pomiêdzy eksponatami tej kolekcji zbiorem wyjatkowym jest ekspozycja embrionów sloni od 1 do 20 miesiêcy, unikatowa na swiecie i coelacanta ryba, która rzadko mozna spotkac w innych muzeach. W muzeum znajduje siê równiez galeria etnograficzna, która skupia bardzo stare okazy o wielkich przymiotach etnograficznych. Jest równiez kolekcja scisla, w której sklad wchodzi powyzej 5 000 ptaków, okolo miliona owadów, miliony skorupiaków, koralowce, etc. Muzeum ma cztery resorty badañ naukowych prowadzace badania w zakresie ssaków, ptaków, stworzeñ plywajacych jak równiez ekologii i srodowiska. Dwie sciany muzeum ozdobione sa malarstwem w wykonaniu artysty Malangatana i artystkê wyrobów ceramicznych Reinata, która pracuje w sklepie mieszczacym siê w tym muzeum. Park na terenie muzeum jest atrakcja glównie dla mlodych studentów, którzy delektujac siê cieniem wielkich rozlozystych drzew ucza siê lub odpoczywaja. ================================================================================= Museu de História Natural – Maputo Museu de História Natural foi fundado em 9 de Julho 1913 como Museu Provincial. Capitão Alberto Graça, primeiro director deste museu deu a ideia da sua fundação da entretanto extinta Escola 5 de Outubro. Durante dois anos o museu dependeu desta escola, mas em 1915 passou a depender da Secretaria Geral. Nesse mesmo ano o museu foi enriquecido com uma colecção de insectos oferecida pelo Reverendo H. Junot. Em Dezembro de 1916, o Governador Geral Álvaro de Castro decidiu que o museu deveria sair das péssimas instalações onde se encontrava para, para a Viola Jóia, edifício onde hoje se encontra o Supremo Tribunal. Em 1932, o Governador Geral coronel José Cabral determinou que o museu fosse instalado num edifício em estilo gótico português, onde hoje se encontra, e que foi construído para ser uma escola primaria. Em 1957, o museu foi desligado do Liceu 5 de Outubro e ficou directamente dependente de Departamento de Educação Pública. E em 1959 ficou subordinado ao Instituto de Investigação Científica de Moçambique. Depois da Independência, passou a fazer parte da Universidade Eduardo Mondlane. Os animais em exibição no museu são divididos principalmente em grupos de mamíferos, aves, répteis e peixes, entre os vertebrados. Os invertebrados são representados pela exibição de moluscos, celenterados, crustáceos e insectos. Os exemplares são exibidos em dioramas em conformidade com os respectivos habitats. Entre os exemplares em exibição destaca se a colecção de embriões de elefantes de 1 a 20 meses, única no mundo e um celacanto, um peixe que muito raramente é visto em outros museus. O museu tem, além disso, uma galeria etnográfica que exibe objectos muito antigos de grande interesse etnográfico. Tem também colecção científica com mais de cinco mil aves, cerca de um milhão de insectos, alguns milhares de conchas, corais, etc. O museu tem quatro investigadores científicos fazendo investigação em répteis, aves, mamífera marinha e também em ecologia e ambiente. Tem dois murais pintados por Malangatana e a ceramista Reinata trabalha nas oficinas do museu. O jardim de museu atrai os jovens estudantes que costumam sentar-se a sombra de grandes e frondosas árvores para estudar ou descansar. ================================================================================= Museum of Natural History – Maputo The Museum of Natural History was founded on the 9th July, 1913, the name of Museum Provincial. Capitan Alberto Graça, a first director the museum give a idea was of its establishment the now extinct Escola 5 de Outubro. For two years, the museum depended of this school. But in 1915 it was attached to the General Office of the government. In that same year the museum was enriched by a collection of insects offered by Rev. H. Junot. In December, 1916, the Governor- General, Alvaro de Gastro, decided moving the museum from its cramped quarters to Viola Joia, a building which today houses the Supreme Court. In 1932 the Governor- General Colonel Jose Cabral, decided that the museum should be moved to a building of Portuguese Gothic style where it stands today and which was originally built to be a primary school. In 1957, the museum was separated from the Escola 5 de Outubro and became directly dependent from the Department of Public Education. And in it 1959 it was placed under the Scientific Research Institute of Mozambique. After independence it became part of the Eduardo Mondlane University. The animals in display at the museum are divided mainly into groups of mammals, birds, reptiles and fishes among the vertebrates. The invertebrates are displayed as mollusks, coelenterates, crustaceans and insects. The specimens are displayed by the use of dioramas with due respect to the habitat of the species. Among the specimens displayed is collection of elephant embryos from 1 to 20 months, witch is unique in the world, and a coelacanth, a fish which is rarely seen in other museums. The museum also has an ethnographic gallery that displays collections of very old objects of great interest. We also have scientific collections of more than 5,000 birds, about one million insects, a few thousand shells, corals, etc. The museum was has four scientific researchers in reptiles, birds, marine mammals, mollusks and also in ecology and the environment as well. Have two murals by the painter Malangatana, and the ceramist Reinata is working in the workshops of the museum. The garden museum attracts young students who seat under the shade of our great trees to study and rest.
